Background

Since 1838 the Sisters of Charity have been engaged in the administration of health and educational institutions, goals and social work. In the late 1980s, reading the signs of the times, and with a commitment to the ‘fourth vow' of service to the poor, the Sisters of Charity Outreach was initiated and opened in 1990 as a Family Care Services organisation, serving women and families in NSW.

Today

Sisters of Charity Outreach has always being multi-faceted, with the original purpose of being a women's resource centre; a centre for women in violence; establishing child care respite centres in areas where needed, and always having a strong Volunteer-based component. To fulfil these needs, programs were set up from the beginning.

Over the years, in the short history of Outreach, Services have opened and closed, according to changing needs as discerned through the continual strategic planning and goal setting of the organisation and direction of the Outreach Committee. Every year services are reviewed and new opportunities are identified to ‘continue to fill the gaps.' A very recent example of this, 2008, is the establishment of a new visit service in the South West of Sydney.
