Court Support

Court Support, which commenced in 1991, provides comfort and assistance to anyone involved in the court system. Volunteers offer a caring presence, friendly face and a listening ear to victims, defendants, witnesses and their families. Each Volunteer brings their own empathy and understanding, given without bias or prejudice, to anyone who needs it. Volunteers also liaise with court officials, police and legal aid.

The initial service at Darlinghurst was so successful that, in response to appeals from the Police, other courts were added: Liverpool in 1991, Fairfield in 1993, Downing Centre in 1996 and the Family Court in 1998.

Currently our Volunteers service the Liverpool, Darlinghurst and Downing Centre Courts.

“Very serious crimes are brought to trial here, and it encourages many emotions, not only from families of victims, but also from the families of the accused. They need some sort of comfort; a friend to sit with”.
